8/30 Alexander Wang & The Birth of the New 90s

September 8, 2013

You know it’s officially NY Fashion Week when Wang starts his show. And last night, it was by far a show to remember. The greatest thing to appreciate in Alexander Wang is his youth. It’s precisely this witty, ever so young vision and talent that helped him make 90s feel cool again. White minimalist dresses, reminiscent of a Calvin Klein-meets-Kate Moss era, beautifully coexisted with Marky Mark  boxer inspired shorts and logomania prints in dresses, tops and midriff tops.  Only this time around, instead of the old J’Adore Dior  printed tees that were once the pinnacle of logomania kitsch, Wang gave us laser cut outs, tromple l’oeil leather pieces that will make any fashionista fall head over heels for them. Every now and then, a parental advisory logo tee playfully reminded us that nude can still be provocatively chic.

Of course this collection, as any other of his previous shows, was street chic central. Sportwear infused clothes that make the best of the urban vibe, perfectly capturing the zeitgeist of new york and worn by the fashion’s elite including Erin Wasson and Jourdan Dunn. All in all, with his very now brand and his recent task on redefining of Balenciaga, Wang is to make an even bigger bang for seasons to come.
