The Future of (trans)Gender

May 3, 2012

In our beautifully materialistic society, choice is synonymous of freedom and entertainment is the number one source for everything that’s happening or about to happen.  And this season it is all about the Gender Bender.

All it takes is a quick look around: Rupaul’s popular Drag Race has once more redefined the notion of drag by crowing the one and only Sharon Needles. Of course the talented Rupaul is not alone in this race. Glee, the quintessence of the gay friendly meets outcast meets Billboard movement recently introduced yet another controversial character, that of Unique, a young teenager caught in between genders. However nothing beats the recent announcement of the Miss Universe competition, a real institution in the history of American entertainment: from 2013, transgender candidates will be officially allowed to compete for the crown.

The beginning of a new era, the era of redefining identity  has officially arrived. And this time around the stakes are higher than ever, so Gentlemen, start your engines..
